Sectional gutter comes in ten-foot sticks joined with slip connectors, and every one of those joints is a leak waiting on a few Missouri winters. Seamless gutter is roll-formed on site from a single coil to the exact length of your fascia — the only sealed points are the corners.
The other number nobody quotes you is aluminum gauge. Builder-grade is .019, thin enough to dent under a ladder. We hang .027 and .032. If a bid comes in dramatically low, gauge is usually where the money came out.

Guards that hold up to a St. Louis tree line
Kirkwood oaks drop tassels in May, acorns in September and leaves in November. Manchester pines drop needles all year. Any guard with slots wide enough to pass a pine needle is going to mat underneath and become the clog it was sold to prevent.

Where the water goes matters more than the gutter
An inch of rain on an average roof is roughly 1,200 gallons. If your downspouts end six inches from the wall, most of that goes straight into the backfill zone against your foundation — and St. Louis clay swells when it's wet.
A lot of wet-basement calls in this metro are really downspout calls. Extensions out six to ten feet, or buried solid PVC to daylight, fix more damp basement walls than any interior system, at a fraction of the cost.
