How fascia fails here

Water gets behind the gutter, usually at a corner or where the back lip has separated, and soaks into the top edge of the board. Wood wicks it downward. By the time paint is bubbling, the core is already going.

You can find it by pressing along the board under the gutter line. Solid wood doesn't give. Soft wood takes a thumbprint.

Aluminum wrap

We replace the bad board, then bend trim coil over it on a brake so the wood is covered on the face and the bottom edge. It's the same coil stock the gutter comes from, in matching color.

Wrapped fascia doesn't need painting and doesn't absorb water. On homes where somebody's been repainting the same board every four years, it's a permanent end to that.

Soffit and ventilation

Soffit panels aren't just trim. Vented soffit is where your attic pulls its intake air, and blocked or missing intake is a real cause of ice dams and cooked shingles.

When we replace soffit we use vented panel where the attic needs the intake, and solid where it doesn't. Insulation shoved into the eaves blocking the vents is something we find constantly.

Sequencing with gutter work

Fascia work happens with the gutter off. That's the only time you can do it properly, and it's why we look at the board on every replacement.

If we find rot during a gutter job we stop and show you before doing anything. Nobody likes a surprise line item.

Questions people ask

How do I know if my fascia is rotted?

Press it. Soft or spongy wood under the gutter line, bubbling paint, or a hanger that won't hold a screw all point the same direction.

Can you wrap fascia without replacing it?

Only if the wood underneath is sound. Wrapping rotted wood hides the problem and traps moisture against it, which we won't do.

Does soffit need to be vented?

Most attics need soffit intake to work correctly. Whether every panel is vented depends on the attic and the roof. We look before we specify.

Do you do fascia work without gutters?

Yes, though the gutter has to come down for access either way.

Will wrapped fascia match my gutters?

Yes — same coil, same color family, so the trim line reads as one piece.
